- WEBS Symposium
- Women Evolving Biological Sciences (WEBS) is an NSF-funded, annual three-day symposium aimed at addressing the retention of female scientists and issues related to the transition of women from early career stages to tenure track positions and leadership roles in academic and research settings. The goal is to increase significantly the retention and promotion of women in academia in biological sciences, in order to create greater diversity in academic and scientific leadership. - Victoria Poster Closeout
- ASLO Victoria Summer Meeting Prints There are a few remaining prints of the cover design from the ASLO Summer Meeting in Victoria. (To view this print, go to: /members/meetings/victoria2006 and then use the scroll down bar to documents/forms to the program.) This design was an original work of art for the meeting by George John, Jr. from Ahousaht, British Columbia titled "Healing Journey". The cost for each print is $150CND plus $10CND for postage. Contact the ASLO Business Office for more information.
- Funding Opportunity
- The Royal Geographic Society and Institute of British Geographers offers an annual award of £15,000 (The Ralph Brown Expedition Award) to the leader of an expedition working in a marine environment. This award is open to nationals of any nation as long as they are members or fellows of the RGS-IBG (details of membership can be found on the RGS website). - ASLO co-sponsors wetlands science course on Capitol Hill
- This August, ASLO, along with the Ecological Society of America (ESA) and Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS), sponsored a course focused on the fundamentals of wetlands science, featuring both classroom and field study. Staff from nearly 20 congressional offices participated in the three-session science course.

- The September 2006 issue of the Limnology and Oceanography Bulletin (Vol 15, Issue 3, 2006) is now posted.
- Comments Requested on US Ocean Policy
- All interested parties are encouraged to review the document Charting the Course for Ocean Science in the United States: Research Priorities for the Next Decade and provide input by October 20. The document is available by clicking here (pdf, 784 Kb). Please note that all comments submitted will be available for public viewing. A compilation of all public comments will be posted at the end of the public comment period.
